• Kimono Gown Patterns

Thus far, we’ve had to make copies of the patterns to give to those requesting them because the larger sizes don’t fit on a regular sheet of paper. I’ve cut the patterns in half so that they can now be printed at home and taped together to make the full pattern. Before you go crazy and print out each of the pages, you’ll need to experiment with the scale. I’ve included measurements on each pattern so that you can be sure that what you print out is actually the size the pattern needs to be.

When I printed the pages as-is, the scale of the image was smaller than the original patterns. I found a setting on my printer options that allowed me to adjust the scale. A scale of 110% seemed to be just about right for most of the patterns with my printer. Look for a scale setting on your printer options…it might look something like this:

You’ll have to play around with it a bit….a pain, I know. I wish I were technoligically savvy enough to know how to make a file that will print at the perfect scale in every printer.

When comparing your measurements, keep in mind that they might not be perfectly exact. My engineer husband works in fractions everyday….I do not. I tried to put arrows in spots on the gown that measured in wholes, halves, or quarters, but there are a couple that are in eighths and sixteenths. Don’t fault me for my poor math skills if I messed up a bit on those ;) Your measurements don’t have to be exact either. If your pattern prints out 1/4″ smaller or larger than the measurements given on the pattern, it’s OK. Our babies come in a variety of sizes and your gowns will still work fine. However, if you print off-scale, make sure that all pieces of your pattern print to the same degree off, or you’ll end up with a front that doesn’t fit with a back. You’ll know if you’ve made a mistake when you cut the patterns out and tape them together….if one piece is wider that the other, something’s not right.

With the exception of the x-small pattern, which fits on one page, you’ll need to print 4 pages for each pattern–a top and bottom piece for both the front and back of the gown.
